Over the past several months Maine Public’s entire news department has been working on a new in-depth reporting initiative called Maine Public Deep Dive. Their first Deep Dive was a look into child care, airing several reports this week. There are four parts to the series: Part 1: Affordability; Part 2: Accessibility; Part 3: Quality; Part 4: Solutions. You can either read or listen to the reports; some which highlight Educare, Maine Early Learning Investment Group in Skowhegan (SKEHS and HomeStart), and Head Start. Thank you to Rhonda Kaiser, Nicole Chaplin and Sarah Lavallee for joining Tracye Fortin in some interviews and to the teachers, providers, parents and partners for sharing experiences and perspectives!
To closeout the series, Maine Calling wrapped up the week long series with a conversation about solutions to move forward. Guests included Lori Moses from Catherine Morrill Day Nursery, Sonja Howard from Maine Roads to Quality Professional Development Network, Tara Williams from MaineAEYC, and Rita Furlow from Maine Children’s Alliance. Let’s keep educating others on the brain science, the realities, and also the challenges and successes!
